About Yishun
Yishun is named after Lim Nee Soon, a businessman who owned rubber and pineapple plantations here in the early 20th century. 'Yishun' is the Mandarin pinyin of Nee Soon, and the new name was adopted in the 1980s.
Development of Yishun New Town began in 1981. Yishun and Khatib MRT stations opened in December 1988, and Northpoint opened in November 1992 as the first suburban mall in the northern heartlands.
Khoo Teck Puat Hospital opened beside Yishun Pond in 2010, Northpoint City was completed in December 2017 with North Park Residences above it, and Springleaf station on the Thomson–East Coast Line opened in 2021.
Population: about 228,700 residents (2025) in about 56,900 homes.
